The Audio-Technica VM740ML cartridge head is the entry-level model in the prestigious 700 series of MM cartridges from Audio-Technica. One of its main features is the use of two moving magnets in a "V" shape design. This design ensures excellent channel separation, raises the upper limit of the frequency range, and provides precise tracking. The output voltage of this cartridge is 4 mV.

The Audio-Technica VM740ML features proprietary pair of toroidal coils with a closed core, which increase the efficiency of the entire transducer and ensure excellent linearity, as leakage of magnetic flux in such a continuous magnetic chain is minimal. A special shielding permalloy plate is installed between the coils to reduce their mutual influence, effectively suppressing cross-channel electrical interference and contributing to improved channel separation. The conductors used for winding the coils are made of high-purity oxygen-free copper, which also contributes to an improvement in sound quality.
The needle has a MicroLine profile and can accurately track the record groove, resulting in a cleaner, more detailed, nuanced delivery of musical material compared to elliptical or conical needles. This profile is more resistant to wear and causes less wear on the vinyl. The needle is attached to a lightweight conical aluminum holder, which helps ensure accurate information retrieval.
The cast gold-colored body of the Audio-Technica VM740ML looks noble and uses an aluminum alloy material, which allows it to effectively combat vibrations and act as a natural shield against interference and noise. The model has a quick-change plastic block with needle, holder, and protection.
