The company Børresen has developed a new entry-level acoustic system at an affordable price, making the Børresen universe of acoustics accessible to even more people. The Børresen X3 acoustic system was built on a strong foundation of development traditions, design philosophy, and Børresen Acoustics technological know-how.
Features:
- The X series membrane consists of three layers: two layers of spread carbon fiber with a layer of aramid cells in between.
- The new Spread-tow carbon membrane is designed to achieve maximum rigidity with minimal noise.
- The magnetic engine system uses dual copper caps on the pole pieces to achieve high flow and low inductance.
- The cabinet is made of a durable reinforced wood composite that eliminates sound distortions and reduces mechanical impacts.
The Børresen X series acoustic systems not only represent a new entry-level in the Børresen universe, but also a true revolution in quality and performance in its price range. These speakers are based on all the knowledge accumulated in the M, 0, and Z series. In the X series, you will find components from these exclusive series - such as the brand-new Spread-tow carbon membrane, the highly regarded Børresen ribbon tweeter, and the use of copper caps in the magnetic engine system.
This membrane is developed to achieve maximum rigidity with minimal noise. The technological requirements of this unmatched high-class membrane necessitated the design, development, and assembly of all components in-house.
The X series membrane consists of three layers laminated into one unit: two layers of spread carbon fiber with a layer of aramid cells in between. This combination of materials gives the membrane unique properties. The spread carbon fiber was developed to provide optimal membrane rigidity. This unique feature of the membrane reduces vibrations and resonances disrupting sound isolation to an unprecedented level. The aramid cells also have the best stiffness-to-weight ratio in the vertical direction. A virtually resonance-free membrane allowed for the creation of a very transparent acoustic system with a reduced size of the engine's magnetic system to optimize costs.
In the X series magnetic engine system, we use dual copper caps on the pole pieces to achieve high flow and low inductance. The use of copper caps was borrowed from the Z series of Børresen. Copper reacts to changes in flow - the better the counteraction of the copper rings, the flatter the inductance curve and the lower the electromagnetic resonance.
Furthermore, lower inductance means fewer jumps on the impedance curve. Both lead to a reduced load on the amplifier. To ensure high efficiency, the X series has two pole pieces. This leads to some loss of flow, which reduces efficiency, but this is offset by a larger magnet.
The tweeter selected for the Børresen X series has the same construction as in all other Børresen speaker series. However, the mass of the magnet and iron has been reduced. This was made possible thanks to the extremely high efficiency of the original tweeter design. As a result, the efficiency has only slightly decreased, from an exceptional 94 dB to 90 dB, which is still amazing efficiency for a tweeter.
The tweeter operates in a range from 2.5 kHz and above. The moving mass is extremely small - 0.01 g. The completely concealed tweeter can operate at an impressive speed. The high resilience of this tweeter allows it to withstand very high transient processes without causing dull drops.
The Børresen X series acoustic systems are equipped with a parallel crossover made from the same high-quality components as in the Z series. This makes the crossover very mechanically stable and minimizes its self-resonance.
The cabinet surface is finished with black or white glossy lacquer and reinforced with carbon fiber inserts. The cabinet is made of a wood composite material with strong braces, which eliminates sound distortions. The material of the cabinet also reduces mechanical impacts, especially hysteresis. The sound result is clearly audible. The X series acoustic systems are equipped with phase inverter ports. The tweeter is ventilated to compensate for air pressure. The bass section consists of tuned ports, calibrated for musically significant frequencies.
